Replacement is a full tear-out. Every flag along the frontage comes up and the whole walk is poured new. It is the right call when patch repairs would leave you with a checkerboard that fails again in two years.
What a full tear-out gives you that a patch cannot
- The entire run demolished and hauled away, not skimmed over
- Sub-base re-graded so water runs to the curb and not to your building
- Full-depth pour to DOT specification across the frontage
- Curb line tied in properly where the two meet
- Permit, inspection and clean-up handled by us
Why replacing the whole run is often the cheaper number
Full replacement has a lower rate per square foot than piecemeal repair because the crew, the saw and the concrete truck are already there. The variables are frontage length, how deep the pour has to be, and whether the curb is coming out with it.
Demolition, grade, then one continuous pour
- Frontage measured end to end. We measure the whole run, not just the failed section, so the price covers what you will actually get.
- Everything comes up. Old concrete demolished and carted. No skimming over old slab.
- Grade reset. The sub-base is re-graded so water runs to the curb. This is the step that decides whether you are back here in five years.
- Poured as one run. One continuous pour with the joints planned, so the frontage reads as one surface instead of a repair history.
Repair or replace: the questions that decide it

How DOT inspects a whole frontage
Replacing a full frontage is the same permit as repairing part of it, but DOT inspects the finished run as a whole. Grade and jointing are what the inspector looks at first.
