Why curb is priced by the foot, not the square foot

Curb prices by the linear foot rather than the square foot, because that is how it is built. Whether the section can be reset instead of replaced is the single biggest difference in the number.

Reset what is sound, replace what is broken

  1. Sound sections identified. Curb that has only dropped can often be lifted and reset. That is cheaper and it keeps the street matching.
  2. Failed sections cut out. Broken curb is removed to the joint so the new section does not sit proud of its neighbour.
  3. Set to line and grade. The curb sets the drainage line for everything behind it. It goes in first for a reason.
  4. Sidewalk edge tied in. The walk is finished against the finished curb, not the other way around.
