How to read a sidewalk quote

Three things separate a quote you can trust from one you cannot. First, is it per square foot, measured on site, or a number given over the phone? Second, does it include the DOT permit, or is that an extra that appears later? Third, does it say who files the dismissal inspection if you have a violation, because pouring concrete does not close one on its own.

Also ask to see the licence. Any sidewalk job over $200 legally requires a Home Improvement Contractor licence from DCWP, and a contractor who cannot show you one cannot pull your permit either.

The rules behind all of this, with links to the City pages they come from, are in our violation guide. Last checked .

Not sure which one you need?

Send us the address, or the violation notice if you have one. We will tell you what the job actually is before we quote it.
