Sidewalk repair means cutting out the flags that have failed and pouring new concrete in their place. It is the right call when only part of the walk is damaged and the rest is sound.
Which flags actually have to come out
- The failed flags cut back to the nearest joint, not patched over
- Sub-base re-compacted so the new slab does not settle again
- New concrete poured to NYC DOT thickness, jointing and broom finish
- The DOT sidewalk construction permit filed under our licence
- Site swept and the walk reopened as soon as the concrete can take foot traffic
Why three flags cost more per foot than thirty
Repairs price per square foot, and the smallest jobs carry the highest rate because mobilising a crew, a saw and a mixer costs the same whether you are replacing three flags or thirty. Two or three flags is usually the point where owners ask whether replacing the whole run is better value. We will tell you honestly which way it falls.
From chalk mark to reopened walk
- We mark what actually has to go. Not every cracked flag needs replacing. We chalk the ones that do and show you why before anything is cut.
- Saw-cut to the joint. The flag comes out at its own joint so the repair does not leave a visible seam mid-slab.
- Base put right. Whatever let the old flag drop gets fixed. Skipping this is why patches fail twice.
- Pour, cure, reopen. Poured to DOT depth, barricaded overnight, and open to foot traffic the next day.
What owners ask before booking a repair
How much of my sidewalk needs replacing?
Will the new concrete match the old?
How long before I can walk on it?
The permit applies even to two flags
A repair still needs a DOT sidewalk construction permit even when it is only two or three flags. Anyone quoting you work without one is quoting you a repair that fails re-inspection.
